Have I Found Grace in Your Eyes? The concept of grace is interesting. It lends itself to many contagious assumptions. However, if they do not stand up to the scrutiny of the Scriptures they are pie-in-the-sky theories.
The Lord God is the source of all grace. Nevertheless, grace falls into two main categories: the grace of God and grace with man. The grace of God is divine favor; grace in the eyes of man is divine favour through a third party, man. So, whether with man or with God grace is divine.
Grace is given. God gives grace. In the Old Testament, there are many references of “if now I have found grace in thy sight.” This is a figure of speech. You do not find grace but the person in whose eyes you find grace gives it to you. You don’t find grace similar to how you would find objects, say money or gold. How, a third party perceives your behavior or lifestyle describes finding grace in his eyes.
Ruth explains this concept perfectly in conversation with her mother-in-law, Naomi. “And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter,” Ruth 2:2.

Grace in The Eyes of Someone

When you find grace in the eyes of someone, it never about what you did or plant to do. Grace is from God. Instead, this is God moving on that person’s heart on your behalf. The result, s/he gives you grace, favour from God via a third party.
Ruth asked Boaz the essence of this concept when she inquired of him: “Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
Ruth could not understand why she should have favor with someone who is a “stranger” to her. However, favour (grace) transcends every boundary: including race, color, language, religion and customs. The source of grace is universal, the Lord God. God uses whom ever He chooses to dispense favour on you.
Similarly, Jacob could not understand, gifts cannot purchase grace in the eyes of another person. After more than twenty years away, Jacob was returning home a wealthy man. With the reason for leaving home still fresh in his mind he attempted to purchase favour in his brother, Esau eyes’ with gifts, Genesis 32:5.

These are to Find Grace in Your Eyes My Lord

Jacob’s attempt to buy grace with his brother with costly gift was lost on Esau. He saw Jacob’s gift but did not comprehend what his brother was attempting to achieve.
Listen to what Esau asked Jacob. “…What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, these are to find grace in the sight of my lord,” Genesis 33:8.
Esau had already forgiven his brother before he saw him. God had already worked on Esau’s heart.
“And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself. And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me,” Genesis 33:9-10.
David did not find grace in the eyes of King Saul but God gave David grace in Jonathan’s eyes. David was aware of it for he knew grace with the king’s son is God means by which He preserved His anointed life.
“And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death,” 1 Samuel 20:3.
God gives grace to anyone He chooses. However, He discriminately issues grace or favor. He never gives grace to a person whose lifestyle opposes His Word. This is grace via a third party and not the “grace of God”.

Ruth was caring and dedicated to her mother-in-law when she was under no legal obligation for her husband was dead; she could have remarried and forget about Naomi.
Jacob was transformed into a new person, Israel. Now, he has a relationship and a covenant with the Lord God.
David was humble, trying his best to stay alive to reign over Israel like God promised him.
The Scriptures utilize “grace of God”, “the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ” or “grace” in the New Testament to differentiate from “grace in the eyes” of a person.
Therefore, when you examine a situation where someone receives grace from another person examine his relationship with Jesus Christ. God give grace to anyone He chooses but always He chooses those who please Him. Grace is God’s divine provision. Grace in the eyes of another person is always the grace of God via a third party. God’s grace has touched his heart to bless you.
Jesus Christ is the grace of God. God gives him and he is God’s divine provision. God “gave” him as payment for our sins, John 3:16. He is God’s heavenly provision for payment for our sins. Won’t you accept Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior today? Accept him and receive the daily grace of God.
